Manipur: 20 Army personnel killed in ambush in Chandel District

Imphal, June 4 (IBNS) At least 20 Army personnel were killed and 11 others were seriously injured when ultras ambushed an army convoy in Manipur's Chandel district on Thursday.
The slain jawans belonged to the 6 Dogra regiment.
 
The convoy was ambushed between Paralong and Charong villages, about 30 km from state capital Imphal.
 
The ambush was laid by an unidentified insurgents at Motluk under Tengnoupal Police Station in the district.
 
The jawans  were caught unaware when militants opened fire on their convoy . Though they retaliated, the army unit suffered heavy casualties. 
 
The convoy was on their way to Imphal.
 
The attackers reportedly used Rocket Propelled Grenade or RPG launchers and other arms.
 
The injured were airlifted by the Army for treatment. 
 
According to reports, a reinforcement party of security forces is combing the area for the militants.
