Maneka Sanjay Gandhi holds Q & A session on Facebook

New Delhi, Sept 14 (IBNS) Union Minister of Women & Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi on Monday held a live Q&A session on social networking site Facebook India to discuss the new initiatives of the Ministry of Women & Child Development and to initiate a dialogue with the people on the issues concerning the women and children in the country.

The Q & A session , which lasted forty five minutes,  drew an overwhelming response and received more than 700 questions. 

Nearly 65000  people were reached during the session with questions  on the subject of women and child development, violence against women, child labour, begging among children, gender sensitization among others. In some of the replies to the questions,

Maneka Sanjay Gandhi talked about the initiatives like One Stop centres, extension of Childline to 352 districts, 33% reservation for women among police force, gender champions etc.

The Ministry of Women & Child Development has already launched a new initiative #100Women in collaboration with Facebook.

Through this unique initiative, the Government wishes to acknowledge and recognize 100 women achievers who have contributed to community and nation building across the country.

The ‘#100Women Initiative’ involves a contest to select 100 women achievers of India through public nominations via social media and was launched on 15th July, 2015.
