Mamata declares Alipurduar as West Bengal's new district

Kolkata, June 25 (IBNS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced the creation of the state's new district Alipurduar.

This is the 20th district of the east Indian state.

Speaking at a function in Alipurduar Parade Ground, Banerjee said: "A new district is born today and we are all really happy for this reason."

"We will remember this day forever. I am fortunate and glad to be present in Alipurduar on this historic occasion," she said.

The new district will comprise of  Alipurduar, Shamuktala, Kumargram, Falakata, Birpara, Kalchini, Jaigaon and Madarihat blocks.

The district is comprised of nearly 15 lakhs people.

Alias Vez was named the new District Magistrate of Alipurduar will Anup Jaiswal will be the new Superintendent of the Police in the district.
