New Delhi, May 28 (IBNS): In a major blow to the Trinamool Congress right after the Lok Sabha polls which witnessed a massive Narendra Modi wave sweeping the nation, two Trinamool Congress lawmakers and one from Left joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday.

Subhrangshu Roy, son of BJP leader Mukul Roy, was expelled by the TMC earlier.

According to reports, 50 councillors from the state also joined the BJP.

They included 16 TMC councillors, media reports said.

Mukul Roy, who was once considered as the second most important leader in the TMC, had joined the BJP in 2017.

BJP won 18 seats in the Lok Sabha polls this time. This is the strongest performance by the party in the East Indian state from its earlier tally of 2 in 2014.

The TMC managed to keep 22 seats in the state, down by 12 seats from its 2014 figure of 34.

Modi's 40 MLA comment during Lok Sbaha polls:

During the Lok Sabha polls,  Narendra Modi  had  claimed that 40 lawmakers of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress are in contact with him and will switch camps once the May 23 Lok Sabha polls result is declared.

Addressing a rally in Serampore, a town which is located close to Kolkata, Modi had said: "Didi, on 23 May, the day of results, the lotus will bloom everywhere and your MLAs are going to leave you and run."

"Even today, 40 of your MLAs are in contact with me," Modi claimed.
