Mamata Banerjee offers to host Ghulam Ali concert in Kolkata

Kolkata, Oct 8 (IBNS) A day after celebrated Pakistani ghazal Singer Gulam Ali's concert was cancelled in Mumbai, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday offered to host it in Kolkata.

Music has no boundaries. Music is the rhythm of the heart. Ghulam Ali concert can be held in Kolkata", Banerjee tweeted.

Ghulam Ali's programme was cancelled following Shiv Sena's opposition.

Banerjee also said that her government will make all arrangements for the programme it it is held in Kolkata.

Earlier, Delhi's ruling Aam Admi Party (AAP) also invited Ghulam Ali to hold the concert.

Delhi's Culture Minister, Kapil Mishra wrote on his official twitter page: "Sad that #GhulamAli is not being allowed in Mumbai, I invite him to come to Delhi and do the concert. Music has no boundaries. #BanTheBan."

However, , Shiv Sena defended its move to cancel the concert.

Aditya Thackeray, a Shiv Sena leader and son of Uddhav Thackeray said, "We are not against his music or art. But can we enjoy when our soldiers are facing atrocities."

Shiv Sena, holding Pakistan responsible for the death of Indian army troops, had earlier commented that the State cannot have any cultural ties with Pakistan as their troops kill Indian soldiers.
