Locals blocked the Mumbai rail route at Badalpur railway station to protest against the sexual abuse of two four-year-old girls at a school in  Maharashtra's Thane area.

The police have reportedly filed a case and arrested the male cleaning staff member who is accused of assaulting the children in the toilet.

According to reports, the incident happened on August 12 or August 13 when the girls were in the toilet.

The accused was identified as Akshay Shinde.

He has been sent to three-day police remand.

Following the incident, protesters blocked the Badlapur railway station, disrupting railway service.

The school administration has suspended the principal, the class teacher and the staff responsible for transporting the children, reported India Today.

The incident occurred at a time when severe protests and demonstrations are sweeping the nation following the rape and murder of a PG trainee doctor in Kolkata's state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
