Thane, Oct 2 (UNI) A 42-year-old security guard of a nationalised ATM has been arrested for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl, police said on Wednesday.

According to police spokeswoman, Dashrath Kamble has been charged under section 376 of the IPC and POCSO Act of 2012 with the Vartak Nagar police of the Wagle Estate division. Further probe into the crime was underway.

The victim's mother, a resident of MMRDA rental house in Vartak Nagar, used to leave the victim for babysitting at a house in a flat in Yashodhan Nagar. The accused used to frequent the house of the babysitting woman.

On September 29, between 1230 hrs and 1845 hrs, the accused lured the child on the pretext of teaching her and committed the heinous crime, the victim's mother said in her complaint.

Upon returning from work, the woman observed something unusual in the child's behaviour and on questioning the child narrated the horrifying incident. The mother then lodged a complaint with the police on Monday following which the accused was arrested.

The accused worked as a security guard in the vicinity of the baby sitter, police said.
