Tuticorin, Aug 14 (IBNS): The Madras High Court on Tuesday ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the police shooting in Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin where 13 anti-Sterlite protesters were killed, media reports said.

A division bench of Justice C T Selvam and A M Basheer Ahamed passed the order after receiving pleas against the police firing and detention of protesters.

The court had earlier reserved its order in the Madurai bench on Aug 1.

The police firing took place on May 22.

The violence during the protest left at least 100 people injured.

The violence erupted during protests against the plant's expansion.

Following the protests, the state government  issued an order to close the Sterlite copper plant permanently in Tuticorin.
