Indore: Seven persons, including a couple of women, have died of asphyxiation caused by an inferno at a triple-storeyed building in Swarn Bagh Colony within Vijay Nagar Police Station limits of Madhya Pradesh's commercial capital.

“The blaze erupted in the parking area during the intervening night. Some individuals who sustained burns were rushed to hospital. Fire brigade personnel brought the situation under control,” SP (Indore Zone-2) Sampat Upadhayay confirmed on Saturday.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed grief over the loss of life.

“I have ordered an inquiry. Uncompromising action shall be initiated against the person or persons whose negligence caused the short circuit resulting in the incident. Ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh each will be disbursed to the next of kin. I pray that the injured have a rapid recovery,” he wrote in social media.
