Bhopal, July 8 (IBNS): Over 100 villagers thrashed 25 people, tied them with a rope and paraded them to police station in Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa district for allegedly transporting cows to Maharashtra, media reports said.

The incident occurred on Sunday.

A video shown how the attackers were forcing the 25 people to do sit-ups amid cries of "Gau Mata Ki Jai".

Police said the 25 people have been booked for allegedly transporting cows as well as a case has been lodged against the villagers.

In the Madhya Pradesh Assembly session, Chief Minister Kamal Nath-led Congress government is likely to table an amendment to a law to curb violence in the name of cow protection.

The move to make the amendment was cleared by the earlier Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.
