LS Poll: Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj thank people for giving decisive mandate to BJP

Lucknow/New Delhi, May 23 (IBNS): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday thanked the people for once again giving a decisive mandate to the BJP as the party is gearing up to form the government at the Centre for a second straight term.

Rajnath Singh said he spoke to PM Narendra Modi after th BJP kept maintaining a strong lead in the Lok Sabha polls.

"Spoke to Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi and the BJP National President Shri @AmitShah over the phone and congratulated them for @BJP4India led NDA’s stupendous victory in these Lok Sabha Elections," Singh tweeted.

Rajnath Singh described BJP's performance in the polls as a 'historic victory'.

Praising Modi, he said: "This historic victory in the General Elections is the outcome of Modiji’s visionary leadership, Amit Shahji’s dynamism and the hard work of millions of BJP karyakartas on the ground."

He said: "I thank the people of India for once again giving a decisive mandate to @BJP4India led NDA and reposing faith in Shri @narendramodi’s astute leadership and his vision of New India. Shri Modi is now all set to build a New India."

Sushma Swaraj thanked the people of the country for the result.

She also praised Modi for his leadership in helping the BJP register a strong victory in the polls.

Union Minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted: "The electorate's verdict is almost clear now. With every election, Shri @narendramodi ji has redefined the basic contours of 'thumping majority' and 'clean sweep'.Every one has been saying since beginning that the elections to the 17th Lok Sabha are historic. So are the results!." 

As per trends at 1.06 pm, the BJP-led NDA is leading in 341 seats while the UPA is ahead in 90.

Other parties are leading in 111 seats.
