#LokSabhaElection2019: Congress fields Karti Chidambaram from Sivaganga constituency

New Delhi, Mar 24 (IBNS): The Congress party on Sunday fielded former Union Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram as its candidate from the Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu.

The Congress released its ninth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls on Sunday.

The party released the names of 10 candidates in the latest list.

Karti had fought from the seat unsuccessfully in 2014 when he was defeated by AIADMK’s Senthilnathan Pr.

The constituency was earlier represented by P Chidambaram.

Karti has been facing trial in corruption cases which include the INX media money laundering case.

Karti is an accused in an alleged Aircel-Maxis scam case.

The CBI had said two illegal payments were given to Karti's firms, Chess Management and Advantage Strategic, during the Aircel-Maxis deal.

The CBI has alleged that Maxis had paid Rs. 3,200 cr to take over Aircel while then Union FM Chidambaram had powers to clear only Rs. 600 cr.

However, in the file, it was shown that only Rs. 180 cr was cleared.

On Oct 25, Karti along with his father P Chidambaram have been named in a chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Rs 3,500-crore Aircel-Maxis case.
