Lok Sabha elections 2024: BJP takes early lead

| @indiablooms | Jun 04, 2024, at 02:14 pm

The counting of votes for the Lok Sabha polls is currently ongoing with early trends showing incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading ahead of key opposition alliance INDIA on Tuesday.

As per the latest trends, the BJP-led NDA is ahead in 162 seats while INDIA is leading in 119.

The result seems significant since Indian PM Narendra Modi is eyeing to return to power for a third straight term, a rare event in Indian politics.

The key hurdle on his path is the INDIA bloc which also includes the country's grand old party Congress.

Modi completed a decade of his rule since coming to power for the first time in 2014 by removing the Congress-led UPA government in a landslide victory.

India voted from April 19 to June 1 to send their representative to the Lower House of the Parliament.

Any party or coalition needs to touch the 272 majority mark to form the government at the Centre.

Riding on star campaigner PM Narendra Modi, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has set a target of 370 seats this year and 400 for the NDA coalition.

Battling sweltering heat,  a record 64.2 crore electors, including 31.2 crore women, cast their votes to constitute the 18th Lok Sabha.
