Lakhimpur violence accused Ashish Mishra not a flight risk: Yogi govt tells Supreme Court

| @indiablooms | Apr 04, 2022, at 05:58 pm

Lucknow/New Delhi/IBNS: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh on Monday told the Supreme Court that Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra, an accused in the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri, is not a "flight risk", media reports said.

However, the government has accepted that the offence is "grave" and "no words are enough to condemn it".

The government told the court that security has also been provided to the witness to avoid any tampering of the evidence.

Eight people had lost their lives, including farmers, who were allegedly mowed down by a four-wheeler belonging to Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni, in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district on Oct 3.

The family members of the deceased farmers moved the Supreme Court on Feb 21 challenging the bail granted to Mishra.
