Lakhimpur Kheri violence: Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra gets bail

New Delhi/IBNS: Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra, who is an accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, has been granted bail for eight weeks by the Supreme Court, media reports said.

However, the court has restrained Ashish Mishra from living in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi and nearby areas.

The minister's son has been asked to leave Uttar Pradesh within one week.

The Uttar Pradesh government last Thursday opposed Mishra's bail plea in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.

Additional Advocate General for Uttar Pradesh Garima Prashad had said as quoted by NDTV, "It is a grave and heinous crime and (granting bail) will send a wrong signal to society."

Prashad said this when she was asked by a bench of Justices Surya Kant and JK Maheshwari on what ground she was opposing the bail plea.

On Oct 3, 2021, eight people lost their lives, including farmers, who were allegedly mowed down by a car belonging to Ashish Mishra.

The incident had triggered a huge row with several opposition political parties training guns at the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh.
