Kolkata youth killed in lightning strike; fiancé seriously injured

Kolkata, July 28 (IBNS): A 27-year-old man was killed after being struck by lightning in Kolkata's Maidan area on Saturday evening while his girlfriend was seriously hurt in the incident, reports said.

According to reports, residents of Dhapa Mathpukur in Kolkata's EM Bypass area, Ajay Mullick and his 21-year-old girlfriend Manisha Mullick, were hit by lightning at around 6:30 pm, while they were walking near Red Road after shopping at city's downtown Esplanade area.

After being rescued, the duo was rushed to SSKM hospital where the man was declared brought dead.

Local police said the woman is undergoing treatment in a critical condition at the hospital.

Family members of the deceased said that Ajay and Manisha were planning to get married this year.
