Kolkata: Undertrial ISIS suspect throws shoe at judge during court hearing

Kolkata/IBNS: Undertrial suspected ISIS operative Md. Masiruddin alias Musa attacked a special court judge by throwing a shoe aiming at him during a hearing at Bankshall court in central Kolkata on Tuesday afternoon.

According to eyewitnesses accounts, while a National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court was hearing Musa's matter around 12 pm, the ISIS suspect suddenly went violent and threw a shoe aiming at the judge's face.

"Fortunately, Musa missed his aim, but, his shoe hit a senior lawyer's face," a lawyer who witnessed the incident told IBNS.

"Besides throwing shoe, Abu Musa shouted offensive languages inside the courtroom following which police took him to the court lock-up immediately," the lawyer added.

The ISIS suspect was earlier charged for attacking prison guards twice at Alipore and Presidency Central Correctional Homes, reports said.

"As Abu Musa has records of committing violent actions in the past, we always keep him under tight security and surveillance," a police official said.

Meanwhile, an NIA official said that the agency are planning to hold hearing through video conference.

"After this incident, we are now planning to conduct hearing in Musa's case through video conference and not to bring him to the court again to avoid such untoward incidents in future," the NIA official told IBNS.

Earlier on July 4 in 2016, West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Musa from Burdwan railway station and the ISIS suspect is currently in NIA custody.

Later in December, 2016, United States' domestic Intelligence and security service, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Bangladesh's intelligence agency, Rapid Action Bangladesh (RAB), interrogated Musa in Kolkata.
