Kolkata under security blanket after receiving terror alert

Kolkata, Sep 15 (IBNS): Security has been beefed up in Kolkata and its adjacent areas following a terror attack warning received from Central intelligence agencies on Thursday, police officials said.

According to the warning fax, terrorists could attack important and congested locations in the metro city and its adjoining areas, including Esplanade bus terminus, Park Street, Sealdah and Howrah railway stations, port area and Kolkata airport (NSCBI-CCU), in the next three or four days.

"After receiving the alert, we have stepped up security in the city and security personnel have been deployed to several congested and important places," a senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS.

"Besides monitoring CCTV footage continuously, we have alerted all our police stations and our intelligence teams are on surveillance, he further said..

Meanwhile, Bidhannagar City Police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have enhanced security at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI-CCU) Airport, officials said.
