Kolkata traffic constable succumbs to COVID-19, second fatality in city police force

Kolkata/IBNS: The Kolkata Police reported its second Covid-19 fatality as a 48-year-old constable posted at Sealdah Traffic Guard succumbed to the infection on Saturday.

According to the city police officials, the middle-aged traffic cop, Dilip Sardar, had tested Covid-19 positive days ago and was undergoing treatment at a state-run hospital in Kolkata where he breathed his last.

Mourning the death of its corona warrior, the Kolkata Police tweeted: "We deeply mourn the untimely demise of Constable Dilip Sardar, who was posted in Sealdah Traffic Guard. He was affected with #COVID19 and was at the forefront of our #FightAgainstCorona. #SaluteBraveheart #RIP"

On June 6, a 47-year-old constable of the Kolkata Police, posted originally at South Division (DRO)'s office but on deputation with Shakespeare Sarani Police Station, died of novel coronavirus, becoming the first Covid-19 fatality in the city police as well as in the state.

Till date, at least 265 Kolkata policemen have been infected with Covid-19.
