Kolkata, Nov 17 (IBNS): A fire broke out in a portion of Kolkata and eastern Indian's tallest residential skyscraper- The 42, which is located at Chowringhee area in south part of the city, on Saturday evening, reports said.

According to reports, flames were first noticed on the seventh and eighth floors of the under construction 62-storey building at around 5:15 pm.

As many as three fire tenders and local police rushed to the scene and firemen fought for nearly half an hour to bring the blaze under control.

State fire and emergency services' Director General Jag Mohan, West Bengal fire services minister and Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee and senior officials of city police visited the scene later.

"The fire has completely been brought under control very fast and no casualty was reported in the incident," Sovan Chatterjee told IBNS.

"Primarily we are suspecting that sparks from welding machine touched nylon made safety-net outside the building and ignited the fire in the under-construction 268-metre residential building," Chatterjee added.

Local police and fire department have initiated probe into the exact reason behind the fire.
