Kolkata: St. Xavier's College to host painting exhibition on Mother Teresa

Kolkata, Sept 22 (IBNS): Kolkata's autonomous St. Xavier's College will be organizing a seven-day-long painting exhibition on Mother Teresa to honour her sainthood, from Sept 29.

As many as 90 paintings of several eminent artists will be showcased in the exhibition.

The exhibition will continue till Oct 5 and it will be open to visitors everyday from 9 am. to 7 pm., rector of the college- Father Dominic Savio- said on Thursday.

"West Bengal governor Keshari Nath Tripathi will inaugurate the  exhibition, which is based on the theme- 'A Tribute to St. Teresa of Calcutta'," Father Savio said.

Several rare paintings of Mother Teresa by St. Xavier's Collegiate School's retired art teacher Nimai Sengupta, Missionary of Charity's spokesperson Sunita Kumar, Mother Teresa's close associate Ritu Singh and few eminent painters, including Subhas Maity and Jogen Chowdhury, will be show cased in the exhibition here.

"This exhibition will also feature a unique painting style called Ahimsa style invented by Ignatius Xavier from Hyderabad," Father Dominic Savio added.

Meanwhile, to celebrate the Canonisation of Mother Teresa, the Missionaries of Charity will be hosting an special prayer- All Faith Prayer- at the Mother House and a rally- Mother Walk- on Sept 24 and 25 respectively.

Starting from Loreto Entally, the rally will conclude at St. James School in the city.

Earlier on Sept 4, Mother Teresa was formally declared a saint by Pope Francis at Vatican City in Rome.
