Kolkata, Oct 11 (IBNS): Protesting against the violence by alleged ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in recently concluded municipal election and to observe independence activist Jayaprakash Narayan's birthday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a rally in Kolkata on Sunday, where Human Resource Development (HRD) minister Smriti Irani, singer and minister of state for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Babul Supriyo & party's national secretary Suresh Pujari were present.

Besides thousand of supporters, BJP's West Bengal state president Rahul Sinha, BJP MLA Shamik Bhattacharya and other BJP leaders, including Rupa Ganguly and Locket Chatterjee, joined the rally here.

The rally started from College Square and ended at Kolkata's downtown Esplanade area.

After the protest march was concluded, Babul Supriyo and Rahul Sinha attacked chief minister Mamata Banerjee and her TMC party.

Babul Supriyo said, "TMC led government is too shameless. They cheated the people of Bengal. Our souls want change in this state. We will fight together in 2016's WB assembly election to defeat TMC."

"That election will be conducted by the Election Commission of India. So, your security will be assured during the election," he added.

Rahul Sinha said, "TMC committed a huge violence during municipal elections. Mamata Banerjee learned the 'vote-hijacking' techniques from the CPI-M. Before ding, former chief minister Jyoti Basu taught Mamata how to capture booths."

"Few media are showing that we have a tie up with the TMC. This is absolutely wrong. They, who took cheated money from the chit fund groups, will be sent to jail," he said.

Praising PM Narendra ModiIrani, Irani said: "Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing many works for the country and the development of the people. Development in West Bengal would never be completed until the BJP comes in power and forms a government in this state."
