Kolkata: Police arrests BJP leader Jayprakash Majumder for allegedly cheating SSC candidate

Kolkata, Jan 14 (IBNS): After a marathon interrogation for nearly 8 hours at Bidhannagar North Police Station in Kolkata, police on Saturday evening booked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jayprakash Majumder in connection with an alleged fraud case, reports said.

According to reports, after getting summon from Bidhannagar City Police, Majumder appeared at the police station at around 11:20 am. in the morning and he was declared arrested at around 7:30 pm.

Earlier on Aug 28 last year, a School Service Commission (SSC) exam candidate, Arup Ratan Roy, lodged an FIR against BJP leader Jayprakash Majumder, alleging that he took 7.20 lakh rupees from them, promising to manage jobs.

"When me and few other SSC candidates were on hunger strike in 2014 in front of SSC office in Salt Lake, Jayprakash Majumder met us and promised to manage jobs for us if we pay him 10 lakh rupees," complainer Arup Ratan Roy said.

"After collecting 7 lakh 20 thousand rupees, we handed over it to him at his office and he took responsibility of our jobs," he added.

However, police have charged the BJP leader under several IPC sections, including 406 (Criminal breach of trust), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 506 (Criminal intimidation).

Jayprakash Majumder will be produced to a local court on Sunday, reports said.
