Kolkata: Madan Mitra accuses police officials for his defeat in Bengal polls

Kolkata, Jun 2 (IBNS): After the results of West Bengal assembly elections were declared, former cabinet minister and jailed TMC leader Madan Mitra on Thursday reacted before the media for the first time in Kolkata's SSKM hospital, where he claimed that few police officials were responsible for his defeat.

Madan Mitra is one of the few heavyweight former ministers and Trinamool leaders, who lost the election.

"Three police officials- a Deputy Commissioner and an Assistant Commissioner of Barrackpore Police Commissionerate and the IC of Belgharia Police Station- worked for CPI-M and played an active role during the election to defeat me," Madan Mitra told the reporters.

Madan Mitra said: "3 police officials are responsible for my defeat. They worked for CPI-M."

Meanwhile, Madan Mitra suddenly fainted while he was talking to journalists in SSKM.

His senses, however, returned very soon. Doctors later confirmed that the former minister was stable.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Madan Mitra in connection with the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam and he is in jail since December, 2014. He is presently being treated in SSKM hospital.
