Kolkata, Oct 24 (IBNS): A middle-aged jeweler was suspected to have been murdered in his shop at Zakaria Street area under Jorasanko Police Station limits in central Kolkata on Monday night.

According to reports, nearly 55-year-old jeweler Md. Selim, who was a resident of north Kolkata's Rajabazar area, was found dead inside his shop's anti-chamber at around 10 pm.

"Jeweler's driver, Md. Iliyas, found him dead and called the local police in," a senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS.

"Prima facie indicates that the man was murdered and local police and the officials of city police's homicide department have begun probe into the matter," he added.

Sources in the police said that few dummy or imitation-gems, at least three precious diamonds, which were stored inside a vault, and mobile phone of the businessman have gone missing since the murder took place.

"We are questioning jeweler's family members and his driver to get a clue," a city police official told IBNS.

However, none has been arrested so far in connection with the incident while body of the killed jeweler, Md. Selim, has been sent for post mortem.
