Kolkata: Jailed ISIS suspect Musa attacks prison officer

Kolkata, Dec 3 (IBNS): Jailed Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) activist and Islamic State sympathiser Md. Masiuddin alias Musa assaulted a prison guard on Sunday early morning, officials said.

According to reports, during an argument with prison officer Govinda Chandra Dey, Musa suddenly attacked him and tried to cut the neck of the policeman with a sharpen spoon at around 6:30 am. in Kolkata's Alipore Central Correctional Home.

After being rescued, the prison guard was rushed to a local hospital in a serious condition.

"The on duty jail guard, Govinda Chandra Dey, was taken to SSKM and later shifted to CMRI hospital," a source in police told IBNS.

"Following the incident, Musa has been shifted to another cell and he's being continuously monitored," he added.

The jail authority, however, has started probe into the matter.

"We are looking into the matter to confirm whether it was a sudden attack or a pre-planned strike with an intention to kill the policeman," a senior police official told IBNS.

Earlier in July last year, National Investigation Agency (NIA) nabbed ISIS suspect and JMB linkman Musa from Burdwan railway station in West Bengal.

Besides NIA and Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Bangladesh and the USA's investigation agencies, RAB and FBI respectively, quizzed the 26-year-old resident of West Bengal's Birbhum district, who was suspected to be an 'ISIS lone wolf'.
