Kolkata: Fire breaks out at Statesman House

Kolkata, Jun 11 (IBNS): A major fire broke out in The Statesman newspaper's office, Statesman House, in Kolkata's downtown Esplanade area on Saturday night, officials said.

According to reports, the fire was first spotted around 9:50 pm on the third floor of Statesman House.

After being informed, as many as six fire tender engines, sky ladder, Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel and policemen from New Market Police Station have rushed to the spot.

Firemen fought for 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

Kolkata Mayor Shovan Chartterjee and Fire minister Shovandeb Chatterjee have reached the spot.

All staffers of the media house were evacuated from the building.

"Six fire tender engines and one hydrolic ladder are working there. Two more engines are going there. The fire has been brought under control. The smoke and heat eviction process and cooling off process are currently underway" one senior official of West Bengal fire and emergency services department told IBNS.

No casualty has been reported so far.
