Kolkata climber died on Mt Dhaulagiri
Kolkata/Kathmandu, May 20 (IBNS): Indian mountaineer Rajib Bhattacharya, who was the resident of Baranagar near Kolkata, died on Thursday, while descending from Mt Dhaulagiri's peak in Nepal, reports said.
According to reports, the 43-year-old climber complained of snow blindness or photokeratitis on Thursday afternoon at an altitude of 7600 metres, while returning to Camp-III from the peak of Mt Dhaulagiri in western Nepal with four other mountaineers and a local guide, and died very soon in a cardiac failure due to lack of oxygen.
Before climbing on the World's seventh highest mountain Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167 m), Bhattacharya earlier touched the peaks of Mt Everest and Mt Kanchenjunga in 2011 and 2013 respectively.
Fighting against the inclement weather, rescuers are trying to recover his body from the mountain. After being recovered, his body will be taken to Kathmandu and sent to Kolkata later.
