Kolkata/IBNS: A portion of an old two-storey building in north Kolkata collapsed after rains lashed the city, leaving two dead, media reports said.

The building collapsed at Ahiritola in the northern part of the city.

A three-year-old toddler and a woman succumbed to their injuries after they were rescued from the debris of the building.

A huge team of disaster management, fire department, and police personnel had rushed to the spot.

Upon reaching the spot, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) administrative head Firhad Hakim said, "In Kolkata, there are hundreds of such buildings which are not repaired due to the ego clash between the owners and tenants. Unfortunately, the KMC does not have the power of eviction."

"I would request the court to intervene," he said.
