Kolkata: Bomb scare at Writers' Building, no explosive found

Kolkata, Sept 15 (IBNS): After receiving an anonymous email containing bomb-threat, police evacuated the Writers' Building in Kolkata and conducted a search operation on Tuesday.

According to reports, one email, threatening to blow off Writers' Building, was sent to the Kolkata Police Commissioner Surajit Kar Purakayastha at around 2:30 pm. on Tuesday where it was written- 'Check bomb at Writers' Building'.

After receiving it, Kolkata Police's Special Action Force commandos and bomb squad personnel including sniffer dogs rushed to the spot and they evacuated Writers' Building.

However, after a search operation of more than two hours, no explosive was found in the 200-year old building, which was the main administrative building of the state and now is under construction.

Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh told IBNS: "No explosive was found from the Writers' Building. It was a fake bomb-threat. We have started investigation into the matter and are trying to trace the sender."
