| | Apr 18, 2016, at 06:46 pm
New Delhi, Apr 18 (IBNS) The Centre on Monday told the Supreme Court that the Kohinoor diamond was not stolen by the British but was gifted by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, reports said.

The Centre's statement was made after the top court, while hearing a PIL seeking return of the famous diamond in the country, asked the government to clarify its stand.

The IPL was filed by All India Human Rights and Social Justice Front. It wants directions to the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom for return of the Kohinoor.

The IPL has made Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Culture, High Commissioners of UK, Pakistan and Bangladesh as parties in the case.
