Palakkad, Feb 24 (IBNS) : Police have taken into custody ten people in connection with the lynching of a tribal youth in Kerala, which created a furore on social media, reports said.

Those detained for questioning include Ubaid TU-the man who took the selfie that went viral.

Apart from the this, the police also named seven local residents in an FIR based on the testimony of the victim-Madhu- before his death.

He was brutally lynched in Palakkad’s Attappadi on the suspicion of stealing food.

Two images of him were shared by actor Joy Mathew on social media.

Members of Adivasi organisations blocked the ambulance ferrying Madhu’s body from Kottathara Tribal Hospital to Thrissur Medical College. They said the postmortem should be conducted only after all the accused are arrested.

The opposition  UDF and BJP have called a 12-hour shutdown  in Mannarkad taluk on Saturday.

The Kerala State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (KSCSCST) and the Kerala State Youth Commission have registered a suo motu case.
