Thiruvananthapuram, Sept 2 (IBNS): A Kerala court on Saturday sent rape accused former Bishop of Jalandhar Franco Mullakal to two-days police custody.

Franco was arrested by the Kerala police on charges of raping a nun.

His bail application was dismissed.

The police arrested him on Friday.

He was arrested after the third day of questioning by the police.

"The investigating officer in the nun rape case has found that the bishop has committed the crime," Kottayam Superintendent of Police Hari Sankar was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal this month resigned from his position.

The Bishop is expected to be taken to Pala magistrate’s court where police will seek his custody.

The Bishop was stripped of his powers by Pope Francis on Thursday, reports said.
