Kerala CM criticises Amit Shah over his Hindi language remarks
Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 15 (UNI): Criticising Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his remarks that Hindi can only unite the nation, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday said the Sangh Parivar has allegedly opened a new battleground to divide people in the name of the language.
Shah on Saturday while extending Hindi Diwas greetings to the people of the country appealed that Hindi be made the primary language as it is necessary to have one to represent India.
Though nation-wide protest is being held against Shah's remarks, the Union Home Minister did not retract his stand on the 'imposition of Hindi' proving that it is an agenda of Sangh Parivar, Vijayan said in a statement here.
Opining that Hindi can't be a unity factor, he said people of North Eastern states could not speak Hindi, and Shah declared war on the sentiments of people who speak and love their mother tongue.
"As Hindi is our national language, there is no differences of opinion existing among the people on this issue. Nobody feel that he is not an Indian because of not speaking Hindi. Everybody accept the unity in diversity of languages in the country," he pointed out.
"However, the Sangh Parivar was creating issues in the name of language to divert attention from core matters related to the people in the country. The Sangh Parivar should refrain from dividing people on language," Vijayan added.
