Keep spiralling prices under check: Assam CM to trade organizations
Guwahati, July 22 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday asked the wholesale dealers to keep the spiralling prices under check in consonance with the State Government's regulations.
Sonowal said that strict action will be taken against those who are resorting to artificial hoarding with an eye on making money hand over fist.
Sonowal made this unequivocally clear to a number of trade and business organisations in course of a meeting held at his conference room of Assam Legislative Assembly in Guwahati on Friday.
He said that the rise in prices of essential commodities has hit the common man hard.
The people must be able to procure essential items at reasonable prices and towards this end the trade and business organisations must lend a helping hand by keeping a tight leash on prices.
The Assam CM said that the wholesale dealers must strictly conform to the strictures of the Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department.
“The wholesale dealers have equal responsibility towards the people as that of the Government. By maintaining a close rapport with the Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, the businessmen have to keep the prices under check,” Sonowal said.
Sonowal asked the Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department and the wholesale dealers to ensure there is no scarcity of essential commodities in view of the flood situation in the State.
The Assam CM enquired into the stock and availability of essential commodities and wholesale and retail prices from the business organisations and wholesale dealers.
Sonowal asked them to ensure that there is no yawning difference between prices of essential commodities at source and that prevailing in different market places.
Minister for Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Rihon Daimari made it clear that businessmen would have to keep prices under check in tune with the guidelines of the department.
Daimari apprised the Chief Minister on the slew of initiatives taken by his department to control prices of essential commodities by holding discussions with trade and business organisations.
The meeting was attended, among others, by representatives of Chambers of Commerce, fruits-vegetables, potato-onion and egg wholesale dealers. Chief Secretary, VK Pipersenia, Commissioner and Secretary to CM, Sanjay Lohiya and senior officials of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department were present on the occasion.
