Srinagar, May 18 (UNI): Two militants were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Pulwama district of north Kashmir on Saturday, official sources said.

They said troops of Rashitriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched CASO operation at Panzgam, Awantipora, in Pulwama in the wee hours following a tip-off about the presence of militants.

However, when the security forces were sealing the village and moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there opened fire with automatic weapons, they said, adding that fire was returned and in the encounter two militants were killed.

The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, they added.

Meanwhile, mobile internet service has been suspended in Pulwama as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours.
