Srinagar/IBNS: In a significant development, Baramulla district in north Kashmir has attained third rank among Aspirational Districts in India under the NITI Aayog's Delta rankings for September this year.

The rankings are considered a yardstick of incremental progress in the developmental indices, including health and nutrition, water resources, agriculture and financial inclusion.

Ranchi and Chatra districts in Jharkhand have secured the first and second spots respectively, while Wayanad in Kerala and Shrawasti district in UP follow Baramulla in the fourth and fifth spot respectively, NITI Aayog tweeted.

LG Manoj Sinha congratulated DC Baramulla and his team for "social commitment & responsibility and making determined efforts to uplift the lives of people".

"Baramulla has attained 3rd rank in the #NITIAayog's delta ranking for Sep 2021. Congratulations @DCBaramulla & team for social commitment & responsibility and making determined efforts to uplift the lives of people," Office of the LG tweeted

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in January, 2018, launched the Aspirational Districts programme aimed at  transforming 112 most under-developed districts.

The broad contours of the programme are convergence (of Central & State Schemes), collaboration (of Central, State level ‘Prabhari’ Officers & District Collectors), and competition among districts through a monthly delta ranking.
