Karnataka poll: B.S. Yeddyurappa's son Vijayendra not to contest from Varuna constituency

Bengaluru, Apr 23 (IBNS): In a dramatic twist to the Karnataka poll, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Chief Ministerial candidate B.S. Yeddyurappa has said his son B. Y. Vijayendra will not contest from the Varuna constituency, media reports said.

Yeddyurappa has confirmed the news after a party meeting in Mysuru on Monday.

Earlier it was decided that Vijayendra will take on current Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's son Yatindra, who will fight his election from the Varuna seat.

The battle between Vijayendra and Yatindra was turning out to be a sub-plot in the Karnataka poll.

However, several workers expressed unhappiness over the party's decision of not projecting Vijayendra from the particular seat.

After Yeddyurappa left the meeting, the party workers had reportedly ransacked the podium and destroyed furniture.

Vijayendra was supposed to file his nomination on Monday.

The BJP has so far didn't announce a fresh name for the contest in the Varuna seat.

Yeddyurappa has urged all party workers to support the new candidate who will fight politically against Siddaramaiah's son.

The Karnataka poll has virtually turned out to be a battle between present and former Chief Ministers, Siddaramaiah and Yeddyurappa.

The BJP is eyeing on to return to power in the state.

Karnataka is one of the last few strong holds of the Congress.

The poll is scheduled to be held in a single phase on May 12 and the results will come out on May 15.
