Kolar: After a wait of 74 years, the Islamic flags have been replaced with the Indian Tricolour at the clock tower in Kolar city of Karnataka.

A tense situation prevailed in the city after the district authorities removed the Islamic flags and replaced it with the national flag amidst tight security.

However, no untoward incidents took place as Kolar Superintendent of Police D Devaraju was able to manage the situation.

It was the quest of Kolar Lok Sabha MP S Muniswamy to replace Islamic flags and hoist the Tricolour at the clock tower.

On Friday, he had staged a protest challenging the district authorities to prevent him from protesting and hoisting the Tricolour on the clock tower.

Taking to Twitter on Saturday, Muniswamy announced that Islamic flags were replaced with the Tricolour at the clock tower.

For the past seven decades and more, the tower was painted in green.

It is now painted in white color. The clock tower was built by a trader named Mustafa Saheb in 1930.
