Karan Singh becomes another Congress leader to back Modi's Kashmir move
New Delhi, Aug 8 (IBNS): Widening the difference of opinions among party leaders over Kashmir issue, Congress' Karan Singh has backed the Narendra Modi government's historic move to do away with Jammu and Kashmir's special status by scrapping Articles 370 and 35A.
Singh, whose father had signed the terms of Kashmir accession in 1947, denied to resort to a blanket criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government which rules the country.
Welcoming the emergence of Ladakh as a Union Territory, the veteran Congress leader said there are several positive points in the Centre's move.
However, he believes Jammu and Kashmir, which has now become a Union Territory after the bifurcation, should get statehood as soon as possible.
Singh also said the two regional parties of Kashmir cannot be termed as anti-nationals. Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti- the chiefs of regional parties National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party- have been kept under detention.
Earlier, Congress leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Milind Deora, Aditi Singh, Jaiveer Shergill differed from their party lines to back the Kashmir move.
