Kangana Ranaut, sister Rangoli summoned by Mumbai Police in sedition case: Reports

Mumbai/IBNS: The Mumbai Police has summoned actor Kangana Ranaut and her sister Rangoli Chandel for questioning in connection with a sedition case.

Ranaut and Rangoli Chandel have been asked to appear before the investigating officer on Oct 26 and 27, media reports said.

A First Information Report was registered against them last week following an order from the Mumbai Magistrate's court.

This was in response to a petition by a casting director who had alleged that the 33-year-old actor, besides defaming Bollywood, was also "creating a communal divide" through her tweets.

Hearing the plea, the court said a thorough investigation by an expert is necessary.

Kangana Ranaut made headlines with her tussle with Maharashtra's ruling Shiv Sena. Through her tweets, she had attacked Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and the Mumbai Police over the Sushant Singh Rajput case and alleged lawlessness in the city.

The actor had even said that she no more feels safe in Mumbai and compared the city with Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Amid this row, her production company Manikarnika Films Pvt Ltd’s office in Mumbai was partially demolished by the civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) last month over alleged illegal construction.

The 33-year-old actor said the demolition bid by the BMC was just a vendetta as she spoke over Sushant's death and the 'nexus between Shiv Sena and the Bollywood mafia'.

Following this, Ranaut had left the city and gone back to her hometown Manali last month.
