New Delhi, Dec 30 (IBNS) : A day after 14 people were killed and 55 injured in a massive fire in Kamala Mills Compound in Mumbai's Lower Parel area, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out a demolition drive against illegal structures in the premises on Saturday, media reports said.

The fire  engulfed portions of three separate pubs which were adjacent to each other in the building.

Five officials of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) have been suspended following the Kamala Mills fire,  according to media reports on Friday.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said that BMC Commissioner has been asked to investigate the fire case.

A case has also been registered against the owners of one of the pubs  where the fire broke out.

It took more than three hours to bring the blaze under control and the fire brigade found that illegal constructions exacerbated the fire, according to reports.
