New Delhi/IBNS: Justice Uday Umesh Lalit took oath as the 49th Chief Justice of India Saturday.

Justice Lalit was sworn in by President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The new CJI will be in his office for 74 days only since he retires Nov 8.

Listing cases for hearing in the top court and mentioning urgent matters are the two areas the CJI has said he would like to work on.

He said Friday, "So, we will strive hard to say that yes, we will always have at least one constitution bench functioning all throughout the year."

On listing cases, CJI said, "I must assure you that we will strive hard to make the listing as simple, as clear, and as transparent as possible."
