JNU sedition case: Delhi Govt asked to file status report

New Delhi/UNI: Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Purushottam Pathak on Wednesday directed Delhi Government to file a status report regarding the sanction to prosecute former president of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union Kanhaiya Kumar and others allegedly involved in a sedition case.

On January 14, Delhi Police had filed a charge sheet against Kanhaiya Kumar and other student leaders Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya. It had submited in the court that they were leading a procession and supported the seditious slogans raised on the campus on February 9, 2016, during an event.

Delhi Police today submitted before the court that the permission to prosecute Kumar and others has not been granted till now and is  pending with the Delhi Government.

The CMM, after hearing the submissions that the permission to prosecute Kumar and others has not been granted till now by Aam Aadmi Party Government, directed Delhi Police to send a reminder to seek requisite sanctions to prosecute Kanhaiya Kumar.

The court further directed Delhi Government to file a status report and listed the matter for further hearing on 3rd April.
