J&K: Policeman killed in violence

Srinagar, July 10 (IBNS) A policeman was killed after angry mob pushed a mobile bunker of Police Department into River Jhelum in south Kashmir’s Islamabad district on Sunday.

Officials said that a crowd pushed a police vehicle into River Jhelum in Anantnag district, killing a policeman. Kashmir valley remained tensed after  17 persons were killed and over 200 others were injured by security forces after the death of Burhan Wani, a top Hizb Commander.

Addressing a media in Srinagar , Government spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said, “A crowd pushed a the bunker into River Jhelum in Islamabad district near Sangam in which a cop was killed.”

Normal life was hit for the second day on Sunday in Kashmir Valley due to curfew and strike following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander.

Authorities have put severe restrictions in most areas of Srinagar city and four districts of south Kashmir, officials said.

They said the decision to impose restrictions was taken to maintain law and order in the Valley.Yesterday, the restrictions were imposed only in some parts of Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag and other parts of the districts.
