J&K: Omar, Mehbooba condemns Sapanch killing

Srinagar, Dec 20 (IBNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday strongly condemned the killing of a Sarpanch in Jammu and Kasmir's Sopore by unidentified gunmen early in the morning.

"My condolences to the family of the assassinated Sarpanch Jenab Bhat Sahib. May Allah grant him place in Jannat," he tweeted.

"Another grim reminder of the risks associated with fighting an election, he added.

Meanwhile Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti also condemned  the killing of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, a Sarpanch at Bomia in Sopore.

She  said the unending cycle of death and destruction should stop in Kashmir to allow it grow and progress."It is sad that yet another precious life has been lost to the vicious cycle of violence in Kashmir," said she.

Earlier unidentified gunmen shot dead the village-head man from point blank range in Sopore of north Kashmir on Saturday morning.

Sources said that Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, the village-head associated with an
independent party candidate who recently contested the election in Sopore , was shot in Bomia village of  Sopore town.

Bhat, 70, was  shot near his residence and soon after the attack, he  was shifted to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
