Srinagar, June 4 (IBNS): Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday became the fourth Indian state to ban popular noodles brand Maggi.
Earlier, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Gujarat too had taken similar steps.

Nepal too has decided to impose a ban on importing and selling of  Maggi in its market for an undefined period following reports of presence of non-permissible contents of lead and MSG in these products.

“All the District Magistrates in the state have been asked to impose complete ban on the sale of Maggi products in the state,” Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Choudhary Zulfkar Ali announced at a press conference here on Thursday.

He said the Nestle India, the manufacturers of the Maggi products, has been directed to withdraw all the stocks from the markets of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Minister said that the Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Department has conveyed these directions to all the concerned through a government order.

He said the ban will remain in force for one month “or till the test report of sampling to be conducted by concerned government departments/agencies is received.”

“Five samples of Maggi products have been lifted from Srinagar for testing and sent to Central Testing Laboratory Kolkatta, Jammu 127010
Maggi packets have been seized by the officials of the CA&PD and Legal Metrology Departments,” the Minster added.

The Minister said that samples have been taken from M/S Attar Store, Residency Road Jammu, and the main distributor of Maggi products in J&K and sent to Regional Research Laboratory Jammu for testing.
