J&K: Army officer, three terrorist killed in Kralgund encounter

Srinagar, Feb 14 (IBNS): The Indian Army officer who received serious bullet injuries in a gunfight with militants at Kralgund area of Handwara on Tuesday evening succumbed to his injuries in Srinagar military hospital, the army said.

“Major Satish Dhaiya of 30 RR was critically injured during the encounter with militants in Kralgund. The officer was immediately shifted to nearby hospital and was later moved to 92 base hospital here in Srinagar,” the army stated.

“Major S Dhaiya, who was leading the operation in which three militants were killed at Hajan, Handwara  succumbed to his injuries sustained in the operation,” Srinagar based army spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia told IBNS.

Three militants were also killed in the fierce encounter at Kralgund area.

According to reports, army and police laid siege in Kralgund village of Handwara town after receiving inputs about some militants in the area.

“When search party zeroed the area, the hiding militants opened fire on the security forces ensuing fierce gunfight for some hours,” said an army officer.

The encounter comes just two days after four terrorists were killed by security forces on Sunday.

Two Indian Army jawans lost their lives in that encounter, which took place in the Nowpora Yaripora area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district.
