Ranchi, Apr 18 (IBNS) Three members of a family accused of "child sacrifice" were burnt alive by a marauding mob at a village in Jharkhand's Lohardaga district on Sunday evening, media reports said.

The police said the mob suspected that the family had kidnapped a child from a neighbouring village for a "sacrifice ritual". One member of the family was earlier arrested on charges of kidnapping a child.

A 5000-strong mob  surrounded the hut where the family lived and set it on fire. Three members of the family died. One child survived, but is seriously injured.

Police rushed to the area on receipt of the news,  but could bring the mob under control only close to midnight.
