Patna, June 8 (IBNS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be the chief ministerial candidate for Janata Dal United- Rashtriya Janata Dal alliance for the state assembly elections as the two parties, once bitter foes, finalised a deal involving the Samajwadi party and Congress to fight the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The  Assembly elections are due in September-October this year.

The decision to project Nitish Kumar as the CM candidate was taken after the Bihar Chief Minister and Lalu met Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav at his residence in Delhi on Monday.

After naming Nitish Kumar as the CM candidate of the JDU-RJD, Lalu Prasad announced that the main aim of his party is to ensure consolidation of anti-Bharatiya Janata Party votes.

"I know how communal forces work and we saw the need of the hour...Our hearts have come together, will sort out seats too," he said.

The alliance was decided by the top leadership of both parties and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday.

Addressing a media conference on Monday, Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal United leader Nitish Kumar said, "The  JDU government is being supported by the  Congress,  RJD and the Communist Party of India."

He said in the by-elections the Congress and the RJD coordinated with the JDU.

"Congress is definitely involved in the talks over the Bihar polls", he said.

"We discussed various matters with Rahul Gandhi but nothing that would interest you."
Talking about seat-sharing for state assembly polls, Kumar said, "Each party will nominate three people each and they will sit and talk on all issues," he said.

"Everyone can see that the electricity situation in the state has improved. They (the Opposition) are used to lying, can't they see?
On land bill - We will protest against the ordinance across the state."

On Sunday, SP’s floor leader in Rajya Sabha Ram Gopal Yadav had announced the alliance after a two-hour meeting at SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's residence..

Prior to the meeting, Nitish met with Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi at the latter’s residence for about an hour.
